NVS Class 9 Admission 2027–28: Apply Online by September 30

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has opened online applications for admission to Class IX in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for the 2027–28 academic session. Eligible students can apply for the Class IX Lateral Entry Selection Test until September 30, 2026.

Latest update: NVS Class IX lateral-entry registration is open. The selection test is scheduled for April 10, 2027. Admission will be offered only against vacant Class IX seats in the concerned Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

NVS Class 9 Eligibility Criteria

Students must satisfy all the following eligibility conditions:

  • The applicant must be an Indian national studying in India.
  • The student must be studying in Class VIII during the 2026–27 academic session.
  • Class VIII must be studied in a government or government-recognised school.
  • The student must be a bona fide resident of the district where admission is sought.
  • The district of residence and the district of Class VIII study must be the same.
  • The applicant must pass Class VIII during the 2026–27 academic session before admission is confirmed.
  • Students who passed Class VIII in an earlier academic session are not eligible.

Age Limit

The applicant’s date of birth must fall between:

May 1, 2012 to July 31, 2014
Both dates are included.

The same age condition applies to General, OBC, SC, ST and Divyang candidates. NVS may refer a candidate to a medical board if there is any doubt regarding the declared age.

NVS Class IX Entrance Exam Pattern

The examination will contain objective-type questions based on the Class VIII syllabus.

  • Duration: Two hours and 30 minutes without a break

  • Additional time: Eligible Divyang candidates may receive 50 additional minutes, subject to the prescribed certificate conditions.

Candidates must obtain the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by NVS in all four subjects. The merit list will be prepared using Mathematics, Science and the higher score obtained in either English or Hindi.

Documents Required for Online Registration

The following files must be prepared in JPG or JPEG format. Each uploaded file must be between 10 KB and 100 KB:

  • Recent photograph of the candidate
  • Candidate’s signature
  • Parent’s signature

Applicants should also keep their Aadhaar or Aadhaar-enrolment information, residential address, school details, district information and category details ready.

How to Apply for NVS Class 9 Admission

  1. Visit the official NVS Class IX admission portal.
  2. Select the Class IX Lateral Entry Admission 2027–28 registration link.
  3. Read the official prospectus carefully.
  4. Enter the candidate’s personal, school, district and residence details.
  5. Upload the photograph and signatures in the prescribed format.
  6. Check every entry, particularly the date of birth, district and category.
  7. Submit the application and save the registration number.
  8. Download or print the completed registration form.

Parents who need assistance may approach the help desk at the concerned Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The application can be submitted using a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone.

Reservation and Seat Availability

Class IX lateral-entry admission will be conducted only against vacancies available in the concerned JNV. Appearing in or qualifying the selection test does not automatically guarantee admission.

Available SC, ST, OBC and Divyang category seats will be filled according to NVS rules. OBC applicants must belong to the applicable Central OBC List. Candidates whose community is not included in the Central List should apply under the General category.

Rural and Urban Candidate Classification

A student studying Class VIII in a school situated in a rural area will be treated as a rural candidate. If a student attends a school situated in an urban area even for one day during the academic session, the student will be treated as an urban candidate.

Admit Card, Result and Admission

The admit-card release date will be announced through the NVS application portal. Admit cards can be downloaded free of cost.

The examination will normally be held at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in the concerned district or another centre allotted by NVS.

The result will be available through the application portal and may also be displayed on the website or notice board of the concerned JNV. Admission will remain provisional until the candidate’s age, residence, Class VIII qualification, category and other supporting documents are verified.

Important: Parents should obtain a transfer certificate from the present school only after document verification and admission confirmation by the concerned JNV.
